Quick Setup: Using Hikvision SADP to Batch-Configure Network Devices
What you’ll need
- Windows PC on the same LAN as your Hikvision devices
- SADP tool (download from Hikvision’s Support → Tools / HiTools page)
- Ethernet connection (PoE switch or injector recommended)
- Default device passwords (if activating) and intended admin password
Step 1 — Install and open SADP
- Download SADP from Hikvision’s official site (HiTools / SADP).
- Install and run SADP as administrator. The tool auto-scans the local subnet and lists online devices.
Step 2 — Discover and select devices
- Wait until all devices appear in the list (IP, model, serial, status).
- Use Shift/Ctrl-click to multi-select the devices you want to configure in one batch.
Step 3 — Activate devices (first-time only)
- For devices showing “Not Activated”: enter a new strong admin password (min. 8 characters with upper/lowercase, numbers, symbols) and click Activate.
- Repeat for any remaining unactivated devices (you can activate several at once if they’re selected).
Step 4 — Batch modify network parameters
- With multiple devices selected, open the “Modify” or “Batch Configure” panel.
- Choose the network action:
- Enable DHCP for all selected devices (quick, if your DHCP server is reliable), or
- Manually assign IP range: specify start IP, gateway, subnet mask, and DNS. SADP can apply addresses incrementally to avoid conflicts.
- Enter the device admin password when prompted and click Modify/OK. Devices will update and restart network services.
Step 5 — Batch reset passwords (if needed)
- Select devices, choose “Reset Password” (or the relevant batch option), provide the new password and confirm. Follow on-screen prompts; some models require uploading an XML/QR token or using the serial-based reset flow described by Hikvision.
Step 6 — Additional batch actions (if available)
- Use SADP or Hikvision HiTools/HiTools Delivery for advanced batch tasks:
- Bulk firmware upgrade (ensure firmware matches device model)
- Import/export parameter templates and apply across devices
- Enable/disable services (Hik-Connect, ONVIF) in batch where supported
Troubleshooting tips
- Devices not showing: ensure PC firewall allows SADP, confirm same subnet, try disabling VPN, or connect PC directly to the same switch.
- IP conflict after batch set: set a non-overlapping IP range or enable DHCP temporarily and then assign static IPs.
- Activation/password reset fails: confirm correct serial numbers and use Hikvision’s documented reset procedure for your firmware version.
Best practices
- Change default credentials immediately and keep a secure password list.
- Use a reserved IP range or DHCP reservations for cameras to simplify management.
- Test configuration on 1–2 devices before applying to the entire fleet.
- Keep firmware consistent across devices; schedule upgrades during maintenance windows.
- Export device list and configuration backups after setup.
Quick checklist
- SADP installed and running
- All target devices discovered
- Devices activated with new admin password
- Network parameters applied in batch (DHCP or static range)
- Passwords set/updated and verified
- Firmware/version check and optional upgrade scheduled
If you want, I can produce a step-by-step PDF-style checklist or a small IP assignment table you can paste into SADP for batch addressing.
